Bachelor

Dear first-years,

we are happy to welcome you to the University of Mannheim. As your student council, we are here to support you in your studies from day one and are your contact for all your questions.

One of our big tasks is to connect you with your new fellow students through a great orientation week.

Due to the fact that our Bachelor’s programs are taught in German, we provide our information for the Bachelor’s orientation week only on our German page.

Under this link, you can register for our Bachelor’s buddy program. For more information, please check our German page.

Master

Monday:

On Monday, 26.08.2024 at 11:30 a.m. in the lecture hall B6 A001 there will be a general welcome by the dean’s office and the student council. Here you will get to know important university committees and get a first insight into the inner workings of the faculty. In addition, general information about studying in Mannheim, such as semester times, exams, rooms, etc. will be given. The welcome is primarily aimed at first-year Bachelor students, but also contains information that is relevant to you. You will also have the opportunity to buy tickets for the Schneckenhof on Thursday.

Important: Since our bachelor programs are taught in German, the general welcome will also be held in German. If you don’t speak German, that’s no problem. You can ask your questions at the Master’s introductory session on Friday.

Afterwards, you will have the opportunity to explore the most important places of our university during a campus rally. Afterwards, you can get to know each other better at a get-together on the Mensawiese with the first-year Bachelor students.

Tuesday:

The VS Day takes place on Tuesday. On this day you can get more information about studying in Mannheim at different events, discover different offers at the Initiative Market and get to know students from other faculties. Information about the VS Day will soon be available on the homepage of the AStA of the University of Mannheim.

Wednesday:

The annual first-year pub crawl takes place on Wednesday. In small groups we go to different bars in Mannheim and get to know each other better. At the end of the pub crawl all groups will meet in a club to celebrate together. We will probably join the Bachelor first-timers for the pub crawl. In order to estimate the size of the group, please let us know if you would like to join the pub crawl.

Thursday:

On Thursday afternoon from 4:30 p.m. we have organized a get-together just for Master first years in the courtyard of B6, 26. Here you can get to know each other better with casual icebreaker games before we start with the pre-party for the Schneckenhof.

Like every year, the AStA’s first semester party will take place in the Schneckenhof in 2024. The Schneckenhof is the party location of the University of Mannheim. The Ersti-Schneckenhof takes place on the Thursday of the first semester week and is a party for students (especially freshmen, of course) of all faculties. Before we go to the party, we want to get to know each other and have a good time.

Friday:

On Friday, 30.08.2024, there will be a short introduction by the Dean’s Office and the Student Council in rooms A5 C013 (Business Mathematics and Mathematics) at 10:00 a.m. and A5 B144 (Business Informatics, MMDS and MMSDS) at 11:00 a.m. The most important information about the structure and organization of the program will be given. This will be followed by a tour of the campus to give you a first overview. At 4:00 p.m. there will be a get-together and pizza dinner in the Alfred-Delp-Sportanlage. In addition to food and drink, you will have the opportunity to get to know your fellow students better and play a few rounds of Flunkyball.

Monday:

Monday (02.09.) is the official start of lectures. In the afternoon at 3.30 p.m. in room A5 C015 there will be a chair presentation for all students of Business Informatics, MMDS and MMSDS, where you can get to know the chairs of Computer Science and Area Information Systems (business administration chairs with a focus on Business Informatics) and their different research areas and ask questions.
